Building Beyond Projects: How DPR’s Global Social Responsibility Efforts are Shaping What’s Next

by Cari Williams 3 minute read

Construction shapes skylines, industries and communities—reaching far beyond the projects themselves. As the industry faces greater complexity, rising expectations for the speed at which services are delivered, and an urgent need to develop the next generation of builders, DPR’s Global Social Responsibility (GSR) efforts reflect a broader commitment to strategic and responsible growth to make a lasting impact.

DPR’s GSR 2025 annual report highlights how the organization is:

  • creating new pathways into construction careers and strengthening people.
  • expanding opportunities for new and existing partnerships.
  • developing deep and lasting connections to our communities.
  • advancing more sustainable ways to build and reduce our environmental impact while continuing to deliver for customers.

The report is organized around four GSR pillars: People, Partners, Philanthropy and Planet. Each pillar has its own focus, but together they tell a larger story about how DPR is building for the future.

PEOPLE PILLAR

Building Belonging

With our People Pillar, Construction Inclusion Week provides one of the clearest examples of our future focus. DPR teams hosted more than 350 events across offices, jobsites and prefabrication facilities, creating space for conversations about access, mentorship, collaboration and daily leadership behaviors. What stood out was how practical those conversations were. Belonging is shaped in the moments when people are invited in, listened to and given a path to contribute.

PARTNERS PILLAR

Building Relationships

Our Partners Pillar continued work to move beyond access and toward long-term readiness. Teams focused on helping small and emerging trade partners prepare for complex work through clearer expectations, stronger communication and structured check-ins during the project lifecycle. This kind of support builds capability over time, and it reflects how we think about partnership: not as a single transaction, but as a relationship that can strengthen future projects and communities.

PHILANTHROPY PILLAR

Building Possibilities

The Philanthropy Pillar continued showing up for nonprofit partners through skills-based volunteering and long-term community engagement. One example is our ongoing work with Boys & Girls Clubs in New Jersey, where teams helped improve spaces that support youth programming while also creating opportunities for students to learn about construction careers. The connection between service, skill and future opportunity is what makes this work so meaningful.

PLANET PILLAR

Building Responsibly

The Planet Pillar highlights how sustainability is becoming even more embedded in project delivery and operations. At our San Diego OES self-perform work (SPW) Warehouse, the team tracked waste performance over 12 months and achieved a 91% diversion rate, meeting the threshold to pursue TRUE Zero Waste certification. This example captures the kind of progress we need: practical, measurable and built from everyday habits that can be shared across teams.

Looking Ahead Ever Forward

As we look ahead, GSR continues to be one of the ways we define what it means to build great things. The future of construction is shaped not only by what we build, but also who we build, how we build, and the lasting impact we are able to make along the way for generations to come.
