Prineville, Oregon is the site of a new data center for the popular social networking site, Facebook. The new facility is one of the most energy-efficient in the world, featuring an innovative cooling system created for the unique climate characteristics of central Oregon. The data center will use new energy-efficiency technologies, including an evaporative cooling system and an airside economizer that will bring in 100 percent ambient air. The facility will re-use server heat to warm office space in the colder months, and a Facebook patent-pending electrical design will reduce electricity usage. The entire facility is being built to LEED® Gold certification standards.
