After a two-year preconstruction effort, evaluating options and designs to reach the GMP, DPR completed the consolidation of nearly 150,000 sq. ft. of laboratory and office space for US Pharmacopeia (USP), a non-government organization that promotes public health by establishing state-of-the-art standards to ensure the quality of medicines and other healthcare technologies.
This facility is comprised of 50,000 sq. ft. of analytical and wet labs, 57,000 sq. ft. of office space, and a 19,000-sq.-ft. conference center. In addition, this project includes warehouse space, a 150,000-sq.-ft. underground garage, and 12,000 sq. ft. of green roof over critical research and development areas.
The state-of-the-art conference center is used when hosting conferences and tradeshows for industry professionals from around the world. The facility is equipped with advanced audio/visual equipment and enough space to host a wide array of organizations.
Sustainable aspects of this facility include a 12,000-sq.-ft. green roof system, a 9,000-sq.-ft. green roof planter system, a stormwater management tank, and high efficiency irrigation system. These systems control both quality and quantity of run-off for the entire site, thereby reducing the amount of processed water required for landscaping. The team also used large amounts of local/regional materials and recycled content materials. Throughout design and construction an emphasis was placed on natural daylight in all office and conference areas. In addition, 60,000 cubic yards of soil were used at other jobsites, thus diverting it from landfills.
