Dowler-Gruman Architects Sacramento Office | Sacramento, CA

Dowler-Gruman Architects (DGA) and DPR have a long history of completing successful projects together. DPR was afforded the opportunity to continue to build on the relationship with DGA when the company was selected to build its Sacramento office. DGA selected the historic warehouse R Street district, a transformational new transit-oriented, mixed-use neighborhood of Sacramento. The existing 7,722-sq.-ft., 1929 un-reinforced brick building was the former home of a local electrical contractor, George Foss Co.

Details

The building was structurally upgraded and the interior of the space was largely kept intact, leveraging the inherent appeal of the existing open web wood trusses, interior exposed brick walls, and nominal rough sawn wood framing as the finished products. The majority of the brick exterior was retained to preserve the character and contribute to the historic nature of the neighborhood. Despite the good bones of the original structure, the project also included several enhancements aimed at improving the space’s energy efficiency, including new exterior insulated glass, added insulation and a full roof replacement.
