WeWork Stonewall Station

WeWork Stonewall Station | Charlotte, NC

WeWork hired DPR to build out its new 45,000-sq.-ft. space in the brand new Portman Building at 615 S College Street in Charlotte, NC. The first generation space across two full floors, the 8th and the 9th, hosts over 900 WeWork members and was the first space turned over in the Portman Building. As a first for WeWork in the Carolinas, the buildout includes collaboration spaces, large social areas, kitchen and dining area.

Project Scope

To build a monumental stair connecting the 8th and 9th floors, DPR removed a 120-sq.-ft. section of building slab. To avoid the post-tension beams, DPR used floor scanning and core drilling. Removal of the slab was performed underneath a scaffolding system to prevent falling debris, allowing for a safe area to execute the work.

In working closely together throughout the construction of the project, DPR built a strong relationship with Portman Holdings' building engineer. One of the challenges on the project was limited access to the loading dock, which required close coordination with other contractors concurrently building out space in the Portman Building. Through weekly coordination meetings, DPR and the other contractors on site were able to coordinate off-hours deliveries, elevator access, and debris removal with no delays.

After completing the project, WeWork re-hired DPR to build out the 10th and 11th floors of the same building for a total of 90,000-sq.-ft.
