The design-build Scripps Radiation Therapy Center blended a technically complex, state-of-the-art facility with stunning interior and exterior architectural design. DPR collaborated with the design team and consulting firms to ensure the building was executed and built to the highest standards without compromising the overall design. The OSHPD-3 facility entailed construction of a new 45,420-sq.-ft. building shell and a 30,000-sq.-ft. cancer treatment center build-out. The facility features one of the most advanced technologies of its kind in the world for cancer treatment. Situated on an eight-acre site, the facility includes:
- One TrueBeam STx linear accelerator
- Two Clinac linear accelerators
- 16-slice CT simulator with 4-D imaging capability
- Patient education resource library
- Clinical research space
- Healing garden
- Patient lockers and gowning areas
- Physician offices
DPR completed the project with Zero Defects.
DPR’s BIM role on this project was coordination facilitator and metal stud framing subcontractor. Our MEP coordinator assisted the team during the design coordination phase by providing constructability reviews and early input. During the construction coordination phase, he managed the interaction and deliverables of the trade partners to ensure the project milestones would be met. Pioneering the efforts to provide a higher level of coordination, DPR’s in-house detailers leveraged the provided architectural model and created metal stud framing elements within the walls and ceilings. These elements would later be included in the typical spatial coordination sequences, and allowed the entire team to resolve many more potential field conflicts and design challenges.
