The medical center is the third “super hub” that DPR completed for Kaiser Permanente in the mid-Atlantic region.
The team completed the project in two phases.
The first phase included the construction of a 106,000-sq.-ft., three-level addition, connected to the existing 110,000-sq.-ft. occupied medical center complex.
The addition provides new service lines to the medical center, including:
- an emergency/urgent care center,
- a radiology department complete with MRI, CT scan and interventional radiology rooms, and
- six operating suites with pre- and post-operative care.
The second phase included a 38,000-sq.-ft. renovation within the existing medical center to house the orthopedic, cardiac, and ear, nose and throat specialties.
The existing facility was one of Kaiser Permanente’s busiest facilities in the metropolitan region, so ensuring ongoing, uninterrupted service in the existing facility was mandatory throughout the entire construction process.
