The 68,889-sq.-ft. GBI Coastal Regional Laboratory includes new laboratory and morgue buildings that replaced the existing GBI Coastal Regional Laboratory located on Mohawk Street in Savannah, Georgia. The construction of the buildings crime lab and morgue provided an updated facility with adequate space for the operational requirements of the DOFS staff and work load. The property site provides easier access off the inter-state system for the employees and the public entities.

Goals
The GBI laboratory facility provides help to achieve the following goals:
- Enhance and improve the workplace environment to be more conducive to the recruitment, retention and development of DOFS employees.
- Foster an organizational culture focused on the quality and integrity of forensic analysis.
- Analyze incoming evidence submissions in a time frame necessary to meet investigative needs and the requirements of court presentation.
- Expand the lines of communication between laboratory staff, our customers and stakeholders.
The GBI Coastal Regional Crime Laboratory includes seven autopsy stations including a decomposition suite, four controlled environment rooms, a gun range, toxicology lab, forensic biology, drug chemistry and firearms examination laboratory space. The GBI Coastal Regional Crime Laboratory is glazed with electrochromic glazing to reduce energy consumption and glare from the curtainwall façade.
