Regional Managers: Mark Whitson and Matt Hoglund
Defining and Executing Truly Great Leadership Transitions in Raleigh-Durham and Texas
MARK WHITSON: RALEIGH-DURHAM REGION
Mark Whitson started his DPR career in the Self-Perform Work (SPW) group as a carpenter in August 2001. For two months, he worked in the field before DPR recruited him from Purdue University for a project-engineer role on a $6 million call center.
“Working in the field right out of school as part of DPR’s SPW group really opened my eyes to what we could do as a company,” said Whitson. “It helped form my focus and passion for self-perform work.”
Now as regional manager of DPR’s Raleigh-Durham operations, Whitson is focusing on developing a strong base of builders and bolstering DPR’s SPW expertise to meet the growing demand for services on projects large and small.
“All of the projects during my career at DPR have served a higher purpose—cancer centers that provide great patient care, life-science facilities that produce products that save lives, and data centers that store and protect information,” said Whitson. “I’ve been fortunate to work with world-class customers, and I’m looking forward to taking all that I’ve learned over the years and applying that to our business as a regional manager.”
MATT HOGLUND: TEXAS REGION
Matt Hoglund is leading DPR’s Texas operations as long-time builder and former regional manager Gary Nauert retires from his more than 42-year construction career.
“One of our goals is to execute truly great—and seamless—leadership transitions,” said DPR’s Doug Woods. “We appreciate all that Gary has accomplished and look forward to having Matt leverage his expertise and passion for building to expand DPR’s services throughout the state.”
With offices in Austin, Dallas and Houston, DPR ranked No. 1 on this year’s Austin Business Journal list of top construction companies. “With the great team we have in place, there’s nothing we can’t accomplish,” said Hoglund, who came to DPR through the acquisition of Hardin Construction Co. last year.
Since opening its Texas office in 1994, DPR has completed more than 800 projects for such customers as Oracle Corp., Advanced Micro Devices Inc., CyrusOne Inc., Scott & White, University of Houston and Hyatt Corp.’s development arm. This includes several projects under the leadership of Hoglund, including one of the largest private developments in Texas, Éilan, a mixed-use development in San Antonio, and Cougar Village for the University of Houston.
