Adrian Barrios

For Adrian Barrios, construction is about more than building facilities; it’s about building relationships and changing people’s lives. As South Florida Business Unit Leader, Adrian is responsible for the performance and execution of all work in South Florida from Miami-Dade County to Palm Beach County. His extensive healthcare background and deep understanding of what our customers need to succeed have helped DPR to become one of South Florida’s largest and most admired healthcare builders. With Adrian’s guidance, the business unit continues to feel and operate like a local business with the capabilities of a global organization, staying true to our culture as we execute projects.

A South Florida native, who spent part of his early childhood in Venezuela, Adrian grew up working outside with his dad fixing and building things. Summer jobs replacing roofs on neighbor’s houses eventually led to work as a laborer on job sites and a degree from the Rinker School of Construction at the University of Florida. Adrian joined DPR in 2013 after working for a major healthcare provider, representing an owner. This experience helped him develop a deep understanding of our customers and the challenges they face. Adrian enjoys the process of building and feels fulfilled knowing he contributes to projects that help the community.

At DPR, we want to be integral and indispensable to our communities, and Adrian appreciates being part of an organization that truly prioritizes the health, safety and wellbeing of people. As a leader, he tries to show up at all times with no ego, encouraging everyone to use their unique attributes and talents, and he hopes that his genuineness encourages others to be comfortable doing the same.

Above all, Adrian wants to be known as a great dad to his two girls. He loves spending time with his wife and kids, showing up and making memories. He’s a lifelong learner who reads nightly and loves history, podcasts and books.

• What You Love About Construction: I get the most fulfillment by seeing our contribution as builders truly change people’s lives. The investment we make into our work, both professionally and personally, becomes quite challenging on us, but it really comes into focus when we see folks enjoying the fruits of the team’s labor after turning over a project. To me, being a builder is one of the most honorable things we can do with our time.
• Desired Superpower: Time travel for sure! I can’t get enough podcasts and books about history, so what better way to learn about it than being there in person.
• Your Hero: My mother has always been my inspiration. She came from Cuba at a young age with her family and worked her tail off to provide a better life for her family. I’ll forever be in awe of her perseverance and strength.
• Word to the Wise: My favorite quote has always been “be and not seem”. Always be yourself and own it. There’s nobody else like you, and that’s a good thing!
