Interior lab classroom

University of South Florida St. Petersburg Instructional Lab

University of South Florida St. Petersburg Instructional Lab | St. Petersburg, Florida

Located on the University of South Florida’s St. Petersburg campus, the building’s original use was a bus maintenance facility in the 1970s. DPR was hired to repurpose the building and create state-of-the-art instructional spaces (three biology and one chemistry), two laboratory prep rooms, restrooms and supporting spaces of approximately 9,800 sq. ft.

Details

The interior buildout included the construction of the interior instructional spaces, as well as mechanical and electrical infrastructure to support the laboratories.

Prior to reconstruction, the shell space had no existing utility services. The team capped the existing service pits and replaced the flooring with a new concrete slab that contained a large volume of electrical components to support the laboratories. Adjacent to the building, the team placed the finished concrete floor, upgraded all interior finishes, and connected all mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems to provide a fully operational instructional building.

The project achieved LEED Platinum.
