Medical City Plano Vertical Expansion
HCA Medical City Plano Vertical Expansion | Plano, TX
DPR’s fifth project on an HCA campus in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, this expansion at Medical City Plano Hospital strengthens an ongoing partnership while supporting future growth. The project includes a vertical expansion of Tower C, adding levels 5 through 8, along with significant renovations to levels 1 through 4. Upgrades include the installation of new patient and trauma elevators to enhance circulation and care delivery. Levels 7 and 8 will be delivered as shell space to accommodate future bed capacity. The roof will feature two helipads and dedicated EMS support spaces, further advancing the hospital’s emergency response capabilities.
Challenges And Solutions
Helipad
Because this work is taking place at an active healthcare facility, helicopters essential to patient care must continue landing at all times to transport patients in need. This created a unique challenge for the team to navigate, requiring the 800-ton crane to pause operations during each landing and then safely resume work afterward.
Disruption
Another challenge to expanding upon this facility is the work being put into place just one floor above active patient floors. This requires our team to carefully coordinate with crews and hospital staff to ensure the top priority is always patient care and comfortability.
