Taking the LEED

DPR Construction, Inc., a forward-thinking national commercial general contractor and construction manager, currently leads the nation with more Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Accredited Professionals (LEED-APs) than any other general contractor in the country. An active member of the U.S. Green Building Council since 1999, the company's latest count includes 128 LEED-APs and some 300 individuals trained in overall sustainability, offering LEED-Accredited and -trained professionals in every office across the country.

"As one of the nation's top technical builders, we like to stretch our boundaries and build challenging projects that have never been built before, especially those that are environmentally complex," said Ted van der Linden, preconstruction manager and corporate green champion for DPR. "Building our own office in Sacramento that achieved LEED Silver Certification for New Construction and Gold Certification for LEED Commercial Interiors also has really helped us walk in our customers' shoes and look at sustainable construction from the owner's perspective."

DPR's Sacramento office building is the first privately owned LEED-certified building in California's Central Valley. On the forefront of sustainable construction, DPR also completed construction on one of the city of San Jose's first green buildings for Aspect Communications in 2001, which went on to win a Presidential Citation for Sustainable Design from the national American Institute of Architects, and most recently completed San Diego's first two LEED-certified projects, one for a major pharmaceutical company in La Jolla, Calif., and a Gold LEED Commercial Interiors project for TKG Consulting Engineers.
