DPR Construction Awarded General Contractor of the Year

DPR Construction, Inc. has been awarded "General Contractor of the Year 2001" by the San Diego County Chapter of the American Subcontractors Association (ASA). Presented recently at ASA's 12th Annual Awards dinner, this award comes for the local contractor with global capabilities shortly after being ranked number 15, moving up 10 spots from the previous year, on ENR's list of the "Top 400 Contractors."

Jay Leopold accepted the award on behalf of DPR, which won in the category for large general contracting firm. The ASA chapter president, Anne Wright of Sioux Munyon Insurance Services, presented the award.

"DPR exists to build great things, great buildings and especially great relationships. By approaching each new project with an emphasis on team spirit, we are able create a strong relationship with our subcontractors," said Leopold. "A cooperative team is vital in achieving a successful project and creating satisfied customers."

To assist in promoting team spirit on projects, DPR celebrates project milestones and completions along with rewarding safety by hosting barbeques. DPR also invites subcontractors to join them in participating in community service events like Rebuilding Together, formerly known as Christmas in April, UCSD Cancer Center's "Luau & Longboard Invitational," the MS Walk and Toys for Tots.

"By honoring superior companies, like DPR, we not only reward those who work well with our members but offer them as an example for other contractors to follow," said Wright.

The award criteria included a contract with reasonable terms and conditions; proper safety precautions on the job; proper security on the jobsite; job supervisors who run their jobs well; a minimum of delays because of poor scheduling; timely payment of progress and final payments; respectful treatment of subcontractors during contract negotiation and on the job; and businesslike handling of all change orders and disputes.
