DPR Begins Construction of 52,000-sq.-ft. Classroom and Clinic Facility at the University of the Pacific

With more than a decade of building great things in Sacramento, DPR Construction, Inc., is beginning construction of a 52,000-sq.-ft., two-story Health Sciences Learning Center and Clinic Building at the University of the Pacific's (UOP) Stockton, Calif. campus. The project is part of a wave of school construction in the state that has seen community colleges and universities moving forward with larger projects. Currently constructing a three-building facility for Butte Community College in Oroville, Calif., DPR has recently completed higher education facilities across California, including projects for the Art Institute of Los Angeles at Orange County and the Otis College of Art & Design in Westchester.

"The higher education construction market in California is growing," said DPR's Brad Des Jardin. "Educational institutions continue to expand to meet the growing demand of incoming students and in doing so, they are incorporating the latest technologies into their facilities. We built our reputation in the northern part of the Valley constructing healthcare, high tech and corporate office projects and are leveraging our technical expertise in these markets to meet the needs of today's complex higher education facilities that include lab research space, data centers and onsite power generation."

The new UOP structure will house classrooms and a lecture hall for students and a clinic through which UOP's School of Dentistry and School of Pharmacy and Health Services will offer dental and medical care to the San Joaquin County community. Construction teams mobilized on site this month and will be working against an approximately 15-month schedule. The exterior will feature window wall, metal panels and brick finishes.

In addition to DPR, the construction project team includes: architect SmithGroup, structural engineer DASSE Design, mechanical/electrical engineer Affiliated Engineers and landscape architect SWA Group.
