Stand-Out Subs
Commitment to Quality, Schedule and Budget Lead to Successful Projects
In an era of tight labor markets, increasingly fast-tracked schedules and the myriad other challenges that crop up on today’s construction projects, top quality subcontractors are an essential component to any project’s success. Two subcontractors that have worked with DPR’s Fairfax and Richmond offices particularly stand out for exceeding expectations and consistently demonstrating the true meaning of “team player”: Dynalectric and Colonial Mechanical.
Fairfax-based Dynalectric has been a key partner with DPR on several projects in the region, including both shell construction and tenant build out for the Inova HealthPlex project in Northern Virginia, as well as the Rewards Plus project, a 95,000-sq.-ft. call center in Baltimore. DPR’s Jeff Vertucci notes that the Rewards Plus job was an extremely fast-tracked design/build project that required Dynalectric to deliver significant overtime and manpower in a tough time frame around Christmas. “They outperformed our expectations and delivered the project early and with cost savings,” he comments.
Dynalectric’s strong reputation and relationship with its own subcontractors and suppliers allowed it to secure the manpower needed to meet the critical schedule. “They have high-quality, well-qualified foremen and onsite project managers,” Vertucci adds. “Their ability and willingness to work with us as true partners really sets them apart.”
Richmond-based Colonial Mechanical was also able to deliver significant manpower resources on the Inova HealthPlex project when the region was experiencing an extremely tight labor market. The company overcame a serious obstacle when the natural gas line supplying the building was delayed by nearly two months. “Colonial was still able to get the boiler room up on time, by using temporary heat solutions and resequencing all their work,” says Vertucci. “They did so without any reserve and without a major cost impact. They really took the extra step, and even some hits financially, to make sure this job was successful.”
Working with top subcontractors like Dynalectric and Colonial Mechanical plays a key role in helping DPR provide superior service to customers in the region. Vertucci concludes, “We make each other better.”
