SPW Concrete Leads Top Out of Sam Moon Group’s JW Marriott Dallas Arts District Hotel

DPR Construction recently topped out the J.W. Marriott Dallas Arts District, a 12-story full-service hotel built on top of an existing ten-level parking garage.  Upon completion in the first quarter of 2023, the 274,000-sq.-ft. hotel will offer 267 rooms, a street-level lobby and bar, shuttle elevators from the street level to the hotel, a sky lobby, pool, pool deck, bar, full-service kitchen, three-meal restaurant and exterior dining area.

“Sam Moon Group is extremely excited about the topping out of the J.W. Marriott Dallas,” said Daniel Moon, vice president of Sam Moon Group “This hotel was probably the last new construction full-service luxury hotel project in the U.S. to close in 2020 and most likely, the only one to top out in the second half of 2021.”

Construction began on the hotel in May 2021 with HKS serving as the architect of record and DPR as the general contractor. Situated in downtown Dallas’ vibrant Arts District, the hotel is within walking distance to the Dallas Museum of Art, Crow Museum of Asian Art, the Meyerson Symphony Center, and AT&T Performing Arts Center. It’s also a few blocks away from downtown’s unique and highly trafficked urban landmark, Klyde Warren Park, which hosts frequent events year-round. Spanning 118 acres and located in the northeast corner of downtown Dallas, the Dallas Arts District is the largest contiguous urban arts district in the nation.

“With a lot of hard work and collaboration with DPR’s self-perform concrete team, we were able to reach this important milestone ahead of schedule,” said Kevin Kramer, project executive for DPR. “Being able to self-perform the concrete scope of work was a significant advantage that we are very proud to celebrate.”

“This milestone was only made possible through amazing partnerships with Bancorp South, NHK Equity, Stream Realty, JP Morgan, HKS, Looney & Associates, DPR, and the City of Dallas,” said Moon “The Moon Family is very proud of this accomplishment and thankful for everyone on the team for helping complete this extremely difficult milestone during the COVID-19 Pandemic.”
