Despite continued challenges from the pandemic, DPR Construction’s Charlotte, NC office partnered with Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte, volunteering to complete construction on a house for The Hall Family.

Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte focuses on repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives for local neighbors in need. DPR has served as a corporate partner to RTGC for six years.

Prior to the onset of COVID, Rebuilding Together had begun construction on the home of The Hall Family in the city’s Druid Hills community. Due to the pandemic, the organization was forced to halt work, leaving Hall and her son living in an unfinished house for over six months.

DPR was eager to help and coordinated a schedule week in advance to ensure all of the work could be completed in a one-week time frame while Hall and her son were visiting family. It was important to everyone on the team that Hall not be displaced from her home for too long and that she return to a completed project. Volunteers clocked over 280 hours on the project to ensure completion upon her return.

“The experience of volunteering to repair and paint Hall’s home with teammates from DPR and our trade partners was very rewarding,” said DPR’s Josh Vallimont “In addition to providing a safe and healthy home, we built a deeper connection with the Druid Hills community

DPR employees volunteered their time and skills to complete the house, self-performing work at no cost to the homeowner. Major renovations to the first and second floor of the house included tiling and fixture replacements in the upstairs bathroom, framing and drywall on both exterior and interior walls, and the installation of new lighting, flooring and paint throughout the house.

“We absolutely could not have finished all of this work without the dedicated and generous volunteers from DPR,” Said Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte Executive Director Beth Morrison.

Thanks to the numerous volunteers from DPR Construction and Rebuilding Together of Greater Charlotte’s commitment to providing safe homes and communities for everyone, Hall and her son are now living in their completed home.

"The folks from DPR did a fantastic job,” said Hall. “It was great to see all the work and progress when I came back at the end of the week. I really appreciated getting those walls fixed from the roof leak. It took off a lot of stress. I'm really happy with the repairs and appreciate all their work!"
