Meta Prineville Data Center
Meta Prineville Data Center | Prineville, Oregon
Meta’s Prineville Data Center in Central Oregon was the company’s first hyperscale greenfield development—and DPR Construction played a central role in delivering its earliest and most technically innovative phases. DPR was selected as the general contractor for the original campus build, which set new industry benchmarks for energy efficiency, constructability and sustainability. The initial project scope included two 300,000-sq.-ft. data halls and a 70,000-sq.-ft. administrative building, all constructed from the ground up. DPR worked closely with Meta’s design and engineering teams to optimize the facility’s performance for the region’s high-desert climate, incorporating an airside economizer system that uses 100% ambient air and a highly efficient evaporative cooling system.
About The Project
The facility’s electrical infrastructure—also built by DPR—featured a unique, patent-pending design that minimized energy loss by shortening the power distribution path and simplifying the electrical architecture. DPR also integrated sustainable building strategies throughout the project, including reusing server heat to warm office spaces during colder months and installing energy-efficient lighting and water systems. The entire campus was constructed to LEED®-NC Gold standards and was among the first data centers to achieve that level of green certification.
DPR’s work on the Prineville campus helped Meta achieve one of the lowest PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) ratings in the industry at the time—measured at approximately 1.06. The project also served as the physical foundation for Meta’s launch of the Open Compute Project, which made the building and server designs publicly available to drive broader industry innovation. DPR’s technical expertise, rapid delivery and commitment to sustainable building practices made the Prineville project a cornerstone for Meta’s future data center development strategy.
Green Features
All phases achieved LEED®-NC Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
