Our history Tells Our Story
When we started in 1990, our founders had an opportunity to do things differently in an industry traditionally resistant to change. Choosing the name DPR, using the first letters of their first names, was the first sign of what Doug, Peter and Ron would create. It wasn't that they regarded themselves as important, but that they wanted to create a truly different kind of company. Surprising. Personal. Family-like, not family-owned.
1990-2000: Decade of Development
DPR's first decade in business focused on building an entrepreneurial and innovative culture and empowering employees. It paid off with great success and accolades. DPR harnessed the rising semiconductor industry that was powering 1990s globalization to quickly establish itself as a competitive contractor. By the end of the decade, DPR had upwards of $2 billion in revenue and was quickly expanding operations across the country.
2000-2010: Decade of Discipline
From one office and 11 professionals to 13 offices across the country and nearly 2,000 people, Doug, Peter and Ron attributed the company’s successful growth to the dedicated individuals who work hard each day to build a truly great construction company.
In times of crisis in the early 2000s, DPR doubled down on culture. To retain its strong competitive advantage and continue building great things, DPR embraced its entrepreneurial spirit focusing on what would create momentum and set the company apart in future years.
2010-2020: Decade of Transformation
In 2010, we asked: How do we take DPR to the next level and position ourselves to be a most admired company by the year 2030?
Part of the transformation was planning and executing truly great leadership transitions, putting the right people in the right positions to move the company forward, to grow and scale. It allowed us to continue serving world-changing customers and pushing the industry forward in lean sustainable practices and technology adoption.
2020 and beyond
Each new project is an opportunity to try something new. Each partnership is a chance to deepen collaboration and the diversity of thought that makes us stronger. Every employee is encouraged to bring the next big idea and break new ground.
