The LA Biomedical Research Institute is a new 77,800-sq.-ft. four-story research building with a major campus landscape transformation and utility infrastructure project. The institute is located on the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center Campus and is affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. The project has two phases; phase one comprises the campus landscaping and utility infrastructure project. Phase two will include the construction and related demolition of the research building, and surrounding site improvements. Research Building A (RB-A) is designed to accommodate two and one half research modules per floor, with four principal investigators per module.
The ground floor of RB-A will house a large lobby and gallery space, a 160-person presentation and event space, and areas for food service and dining. This floor was designed to house the campus data center, a freezer farm for approximately 40 freezers and lockable cage storage for the use of the principal investigators. The second floor was designed for wet-labs, and the fourth floor for a dry lab and a small suite for the president of the Institute, the CFO and administrative staff in a combination of private offices, open workstations and conference rooms.
