The Big Picture

Located near downtown Colorado Springs, the Humane Society of Pikes Peak Region was experiencing capacity issues and needed renovations and additions. This project updated the lobby and provided new, enlarged spaces for cats and dogs. It also created a new intake area and a partial basement with space for long-term residents. The addition provided 13,000 sq. ft. on the main level and another 7,000 sq. ft. on the walk-out lower level. Site work included expanding the dog walk area, as well as the construction of a shelter for chickens, goats, llamas, horses, and other livestock.

Ingenuity in Action

To prioritize animal welfare, the team communicated extensively and continuously with the staff. For example, the switch from the existing transformer to a new transformer was meticulously planned out and involved generators to ensure power to vital systems. The team stayed on the site until 2 AM to accomplish the switchover and ensure no animals were impacted.
