Broward Health | Coral Springs 4th Floor Buildout
Broward Health | Coral Springs 4th Floor Buildout | Coral Springs, FL
|
Broward Health has expanded its capacity to deliver exceptional care with the opening of a new medical-surgical and step-down intermediate recovery unit on the fourth floor of the south tower. Designed to enhance patient comfort and safety, this interior buildout adds 28 private rooms—16 for medical-surgical care and 12 for those who need a stepped-down, intermediate level of care. Equipped with the latest technology for advanced monitoring and treatment, the new unit ensures patients receive the highest standard of care in a modern, healing environment. Families also benefit from the enhanced experience, with private rooms that provide comfort and peace of mind during recovery. This expansion not only elevates the hospital experience but also increases Broward Health’s total inpatient bed count from 250 to 278, strengthening its ability to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community. |
Project Details
DPR was selected because of its proven expertise and familiarity with the building, having originally constructed its core and shell, demonstrating the team's ability to execute complex tasks in active healthcare environments. The expansion’s scope extended beyond the fourth floor, requiring work on the occupied floor below, which continued to provide patient care. Additionally, the project included minor roof repairs and the installation of a new air-handling unit identical to the system serving the third floor.
Innovative Technology Through Self-Perform
As a self-performing (SPW) general contractor, DPR’s team executed the drywall, ACT and specialties scopes, including the installation of select owner-furnished equipment.
To ensure accuracy and quality control, DPR's Drywall team leveraged the innovative LightYX Laser Layout Tool. This laser-guided system transforms construction workflows by integrating with VDC models to project digital construction plans directly onto floors, walls and ceilings. With this technology, DPR's crew marked layout points quickly and precisely, eliminating the time and errors associated with traditional methods like tape measures and chalk lines.
By seamlessly connecting to the BIM model, LightYX provided real-time on-site visualization, streamlining layout and installation tasks while reducing errors and minimizing punch list rework.
Mentor-Protégé Program
DPR implemented a Mentor-Protégé program on this project, going beyond contractual obligations to support the development of a small business vendor. As a trusted partner to Broward Health, DPR initiated this mentorship to enhance the capabilities of OAC Construction, a certified small business vendor within the Broward Health Vendor Registration System (VRS).
At the program's onset, DPR collaborated with OAC to establish clear project goals aimed at improving their project execution while contributing to the successful delivery of the 4th-floor buildout. Key accomplishments of the Mentor-Protégé program included:
- AHCA Compliance & Inspection Readiness
- Enhanced Safety Practices
- General Construction Best Practices
- Scheduling & Planning Improvements.
By the end of the program, OAC had significantly strengthened its operational capabilities, positioning itself for future growth and success. DPR Construction remains committed to fostering the development of small businesses through mentorship initiatives that drive excellence in project execution and industry best practices.
