Banner Children’s Blood & Cancer Center

Banner Children’s Blood & Cancer Center | Mesa, AZ

DPR completed a two-phased project that included the relocation of an adult cardio gym and the build-out of a pediatric hematology-oncology clinic and outpatient treatment center. The build-out included a 6,600-sq.-ft. Pediatric Oncology Unit on Level 1 of the Children’s Tower, integrated into the existing Cardio Rehabilitation Center. The unit features four infusion bays, two private infusion rooms, exam rooms, procedure rooms, and dedicated spaces for psychosocial support and integrative therapies.

High Performing Team Collaboration

Collaboration during the design stage was pivotal. Due to the predecessor phase of relocating the cardio gym to allow space for the new Cancer Center, the team performed investigation and site walks and took part in the design meetings prior to issuance of the design documents. This process mitigated surprises and contributed to the overall success of the project.

Wall Protection Procurement Challenges & Solutions

DPR encountered procurement challenges with securing the necessary wall protection materials for the project. Recognizing the potential impact on the project timeline, the team promptly reached out to the manufacturer to seek a solution. The manufacturer initiated a thorough search across their network of ongoing projects to identify any that were using the same material to meet DPR's immediate needs. This proactive approach was crucial in ensuring that the project stayed on schedule and avoided any delays. The collaboration between DPR and the manufacturer exemplified effective problem-solving and resource management, ultimately contributing to the project's success.
