DPR Construction’s Inaugural “Building Great Things” Golf Tournament Raises Funds for American Red Cross

A sell-out field of more than 110 golfers teed off at DPR Construction, Inc.’s first annual “Building Great Things” golf tournament held at Currahee Club in Toccoa, Georgia on Oct. 5, 2006. DPR Construction, Inc., a forward-thinking, national, commercial general contractor and construction manager, hosted the event, which brought in more than $45,000. All event proceeds are to benefit The American Red Cross Blood Services Southern Region, an organization committed to the humanitarian mission of providing the safest possible blood components for every patient in need of a life-saving transfusion.

According to DPR’s Andy Andres, the event brought together a mix of business partners with whom DPR collaborates on projects throughout the Southeast, including the 182,000-sq.-ft. blood processing and distribution facility currently under construction for the American Red Cross in Douglasville, Georgia. “Our sponsors really stepped up for this cause. The partnerships we cultivate in our business extend beyond the construction site into service to our community. We are helping to build great things, not just great buildings. We truly appreciate the contributions of our sponsors to make this tournament happen” said Andres. Major sponsors included SteelFab, Inc., MCI Enterprises, Inc., Georgia Specialty Constructors, Inc., Walker Door Company and A.L. Grading Contractors, Inc., among others.

Steve Bartkowski, former All-Pro quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons and member of DPR’s Atlanta leadership team, also joined in the day, noting that “we live and do business in this community, and it’s to the benefit of all of us to give back.”

In addition to a great day of golf, players were provided the opportunity to sign up to donate blood. According to the Red Cross, there is an ongoing need for more donations in Georgia, which has more than 130 hospitals served by the organization. Last year, the Red Cross had to bring in more than 44,000 units of blood from other states to adequately supply hospitals across the state. Healthy people usually can give blood every 56 days and are eligible to donate if they are at least 17 years old and weigh no less than 110 pounds.
