DPR Construction Completes Phase I of Boys & Girls Club in Solano Beach

DPR Construction, Inc. has announced that construction is complete on Phase I of the new San Dieguito Boys & Girls Club in Solana Beach, Calif. Known as the “Share the Dream” project, the $7 million renovation will encompass two phases of construction resulting in a new complex featuring state-of-the-art recreational and learning facilities for children. DPR is providing full general contractor services for the project, which is scheduled to be completed in April 2007. DPR began demolition and construction of the new facility in November 2005.

The Boys & Girls Club, recently renamed the “Barbara Harper Branch and Doug and Marianne Pardee Aquatics Center,” is located on three acres at 533 Lomas Santa Fe Dr. The club has been operating at that location since 1966.

The renovated facility, which will also serve as a community center, will feature a new 12,050-square-foot clubhouse, a computer lab, game room, homework room, gym and work-out facility, youth mentoring center, the Center for Healthy Lifestyles, and the 20,450-square-foot Pardee Aquatics Center with two pools.

Phase I of the expansion involved demolition of the club’s outdated clubhouse, a new pool for competitive meets and water polo matches, as well as a new main entrance and front parking lot. The first phase also included reinforcement of the retaining walls, a new pool equipment building and upgraded landscaping.

The second phase of construction is scheduled to start next month, according to DPR project manager Ian Pyka. Phase II encompasses the construction of new administration and aquatics offices, the new clubhouse, a landscaped playground, and renovation of the gym and current pool.

“The Share the Dream project is a labor of love for everybody involved in this project,” Pyka said. “One of DPR’s goals as part of our mission to be a most admired company by 2030 is to be as integral and indispensable as the Boys & Girls Club to the communities we operate in, so we are immensely proud to have played a role in this particular project. When completed, this center will have a very positive impact on the entire community, with results seen and felt by generations of kids and their families.”
