As design professionals, we are in a unique position to advocate for responsible decisions in the built environment. But when concerns are raised over loss of comfort, or perceived loss of quality due to lofty environmental goals, how do we respond? How do we prove that comfort and responsibility can co-exist?
Founded on the principle of environmental stewardship, The Miller Hull Partnership’s Seattle studio became Petal certified in 2017. With the help of DPR Construction, our San Diego studio is set to achieve Net Zero Energy and Petal certification soon, making 100 percent of the firm’s offices sustainably certified. In 2010, DPR Construction extended its net-zero initiatives through the completion of our Net Zero Certified San Diego office, which laid the groundwork for future high performance and provided a road map for high performance projects. With locations across the United States, 45 percent of DPR’s offices are green, including nine certified or targeting LEED certification and four net-zero designed or certified.
