DPR Construction is proud to announce the opening of Sutter Health’s East Santa Clara medical campus, marking a significant step forward in expanding access to care for the community.

The adaptive reuse project transformed two 1980s-era office buildings into state-of-the-art medical facilities, delivering Sutter Health’s vision for modern, patient-centered care.

Speed to Market Through Collaboration

Meeting the need for timely healthcare access, DPR and its partners delivered Building 1—a three-story, 140,000-sq.-ft. facility housing Urgent Care, Primary Care, Pediatrics and specialty clinics—on schedule.

The integrated project team, comprising Sutter Health, HGA Architects, Beuhler Engineering, Southland Industries, Sprig Electric, and HBS, worked closely together from day one. This collaborative approach streamlined decision-making and kept the project moving, even when challenges arose.

From the outset, the team adopted Sutter Health’s Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Integrated Form of Agreement (IFOA) model, which unified all stakeholders under shared goals and risk parameters. By co-locating in a unified space, the team was able to accelerate progress, resolve issues quickly, and maintain a clear focus on the project’s schedule and quality standards.

Adaptive Reuse for Modern Medicine

By repurposing the existing structures of this project, the team breathed new life into underutilized buildings, creating spaces tailored to today’s healthcare needs. Building 1, now open, offers imaging, urgent care and primary care clinics for adults and children. Every square foot of this project was designed to support efficient workflows and a welcoming environment for patients and staff.

The transformation of these 1980s-era office buildings into advanced medical facilities demonstrates DPR’s commitment to sustainable building practices and resourcefulness. The adaptive reuse approach not only reduced construction timelines but also minimized environmental impact, setting a new standard for healthcare development in Silicon Valley.

Enhancing Patient Experience

From the moment patients walk through the doors, they encounter a facility built for comfort, accessibility and advanced care. Thoughtful design choices—clear wayfinding, natural light and modern amenities—reflect Sutter Health’s commitment to improving the patient’s journey.

The new campus features spacious lobbies, intuitive navigation and a welcoming atmosphere that supports both patients and caregivers. Advanced imaging suites, specialty clinics and urgent care services are all housed under one roof, making it easier for families to access the care they need, when they need it.

A Shared Commitment to Community Health

DPR is honored to have helped Sutter Health deliver on its promise to the Santa Clara community. The East Santa Clara campus stands as a testament to what’s possible when speed, innovation and patient experience drive every decision.

This milestone is more than the completion of a building—it’s the realization of a shared vision to provide accessible, high-quality healthcare in an area that needs it. DPR remains committed to supporting Sutter Health’s mission and looks forward to continuing to build spaces that empower patients, support caregivers and strengthen communities.
