  • Role:  San Diego Business Unit Leader
  • Location: San Diego, CA
  • Education: University of Nebraska, Lincoln
  • Year started at DPR: 1999

Scott Sass is a hands-on leader who sets teams up for success by staying close to the work and ensuring people have the support and resources they need. As San Diego Business Unit Leader, Scott supports pursuit planning, project execution, and talent development across the business. He works with teams to align expectations, apply the right tools and processes, and take care of customers. Scott also serves on DPR’s Southwest regional leadership team, helping align local initiatives with broader strategic goals.

Construction wasn’t Scott’s original path—he initially planned to become a marine biologist but shifted direction after taking a semester off and working as a drywall laborer. That experience led him into a construction management program and ultimately to DPR in 1999. Starting in the Bay Area, he dove into complex scopes like Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) and Mechanical Electrical Plumbing (MEP) coordination and quickly took on more responsibility. He later moved to Texas, where he stepped into the role of project executive and supported teams across multiple markets before relocating to San Diego.

Scott draws on experience from each of his past roles to inform how he leads today—modeling the right behaviors and supporting project teams in delivering successful outcomes. His approach centers on staying hands-on and accessible, supporting teams, and consistently following through.

Outside of work, Scott enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, especially at the beach or on the water. At home, a favorite tradition is family cooking night, where his family plans and prepares dinner together.
