Marc Ness
- Role: Southern California Co-Business Unit Leader
- Year started at DPR: 2014
- Location: Southern California
Marc Ness has always been driven to understand as much as he can about construction. As he puts it, “I’ve always challenged myself to learn all aspects of the business, give it everything I have and learn the nuances of every role I’m in.” He gained expertise in structural concrete and other disciplines, including structure, steel and excavation, by working on construction sites and eventually realized the industry is as much about people as technology and construction. His determination to learn, grow and take care of people informs his current role as SoCal Co-Business Unit Leader. In this capacity, he serves our people and customers by ensuring we have the right teams and resources and get the right work to build a high-performing operation in Southern California.
When he was just 13, Marc became fascinated by the construction of a room addition on his family home. Every day after school he rushed home to watch the progress. He wanted to do everything the workers did. After that project finished, he worked for that construction company during school breaks and summers and embarked on a career in construction. In 2014, he joined DPR as a project manager. Thanks to his concrete expertise, he soon found himself leading the largest concrete project in SoCal, then leading concrete and drywall Self Perform Work (SPW) in SoCal. Later he became the concrete SPW Lead for the southwest region before taking on his current role.
Marc is passionate about serving people and acting as a champion for our craft. “Our ability to self-perform with our craft workforce makes us better.” He loves playing a part in making something tangible, especially on projects that improve people's lives or experiences. A example of flexibility and adaptability, Marc inspires his team to do the same and works hard to make sure everyone knows they are valued members of the DPR team.
When he’s not working, Marc can often be found volunteering his time. Giving back is an important part of who he is. He loves spending time with his family and friends and enjoys quiet times outdoors and in nature.
