Kevin Chen loves many aspects of construction. He loves the technical components of construction, the art of planning a complex project, the intrinsic satisfaction of completing challenging projects, and the connections created with team members who deliver great results. As Co-Business Unit Leader responsible for day-to-day operations in the Bay Area, where DPR was founded in 1990, Kevin spends his time doing what he loves; supporting DPR’s great project teams and customers to deliver projects that change the world we live in.
Growing up, Kevin originally planned to become a structural engineer because he was always fascinated by skyscrapers. An internship at a structural engineering firm made him realize that he wanted to be part of something more tangible where he could work on the projects and actually touch and feel the parts of the building. As an intern at DPR, Kevin was part of the California Pacific Medical Center Surgery Training Center Project in San Francisco, spending the summer coordinating everything from drywall framing details, overhead MEP layout, structural details, and all the finishes in the space. Empowered to have a first-hand impact on projects, he says, “I loved the people at DPR and teams in the field, and from there I never doubted that this was the company and path for me.”
After completing his graduate studies with his master’s degree in civil engineering, Kevin returned to DPR as a full-time project engineer in 2009 and has since worked with some of Silicon Valley’s most prestigious customers on their projects. Most recently, Kevin supported the growth of DPR’s partnership with Vantage Data Centers as the Account Manager, helping to grow the account from a single project in Santa Clara, CA to a national customer with multiple projects around the country and in Europe, focused on delivering successful and consistent operations at each of DPR’s project sites.
Kevin and his wife enjoy spending quality time at the kids' sporting events and cooking dinner at home. He says that when he’s lucky, you’ll find him spending time on a beach or golf course in Hawaii where is wife is from.
