Thoughtful and globally minded, Hock Yap guides customers through the complexities of capital projects across South Korea and Asia. In his role as leader of DPR’s South Korea business, he directs consulting and project management services for foreign investors and local partners, focusing on next-generation digital and AI infrastructure as well as advanced life science facilities.
His day-to-day work combines project leadership, client advisory and long-term regional strategy—supporting U.S. clients expanding into Asia and Asia-based investors building in DPR’s U.S. markets. He also guides teams through site selection, due diligence, permitting, design coordination and execution planning for large capital programs.
Hock’s path to construction was anything but linear. Trained as a mechanical engineer with plans to design cars, he discovered a passion for combining technical expertise, problem-solving, and collaboration. Drawn to DPR’s culture of trust, autonomy, and teamwork, he saw how construction could unite engineering fundamentals with the human complexity of coordinating teams, aligning stakeholders, and delivering challenging projects.
After 12 years managing projects in the Bay Area, Hock relocated with his family to South Korea in 2012. He values the blend of challenge, purpose, and people in his role and takes pride in helping clients deliver next-generation facilities. He also focuses on developing talent and building scalable systems that position DPR as a trusted long-term partner in the region.
Outside of work, Hock spends most of his time with his family, helping with schoolwork, enjoying concerts and sports with his kids, cooking favorite meals, and sharing in everyday routines. When he needs to reset, he enjoys reading, catching up on new ideas and planning the next family trip.
